World Fantasy Award Win, and my 2025 Award Eligibility

It’s been a while since I updated the website, but I have a lot of great news for 2025. First of all, the big one: my Birdverse novella Yoke of Stars won the World Fantasy Award! I was stunned for such a long time. My Birdverse works have been nominated for so many awards over the years - I am so happy and grateful to have won this one.

In 2025, I published four poems and one short story, and I am so proud of all of those works.

Prose

My fantasy story "Other Wars Elsewhere" is out in We Will Rise Again: Speculative Stories of Protest, Resistance, and Hope, edited by Karen Lord, Annalee Newitz, and Malka Older. This story opens the volume, and I hope you read it :) It is eligible for a variety of awards in the short story category.

Poetry - all four poems are in the Long Poetry category for awards that make that distinction.

The blanket, the secret, the dark" - Strange Horizons, March 2025 - prose poem about a devoured moon, among other things, in the Aging Issue.

"Things for which I have not ascertained your consent" - The Deadlands, Feb 2025. This is for Corey.

"Bay Nakht afn Altn Mark: a Rehearsal" - The Deadlands, Nov 2025. This poem is about an old Yiddish play and its many iterations.

Finally, "The Ghosts of Me are in your Machine", Strange Horizons, December 2025. It’s an anti-GenAI poem. This has been a very strong year for my poetry, and I think all of those poems are worthy of consideration, but if you can only consider one for awards, please consider this one.

2025 has been a difficult year. I hope 2026 brings hope and renewal - a second breath. Thank you for following my work.
